LOCATION: Lower East Side, New York City
STATUS: Proposed, Sept. 2012
GOAL: The Lowline aims to convert a historic trolley terminal beneath Delancey Street into an extraordinary subterranean public park.
GOAL: The Lowline aims to convert a historic trolley terminal beneath Delancey Street into an extraordinary subterranean public park.
HISTORY: The former Williamsburg Trolley Terminal was in 1903 as a place for streetcars and ferry passengers between Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Lower East Side, Manhattan. It was in service until 1948 when streetcar service was discontinued, and has not been used ever since.
